Elaine was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, a city whose rich culture matched her own vibrant spirit. It was there she met the love of her life, Albert J. Guidry, with whom she shared 58 beautiful years of marriage, a testament to enduring love and commitment.
Together, she and her husband made their homes and raised their family in Maryland, retired to Nellysford, Virginia, and later Elaine moved to North Carolina after Al passed away. She made lasting friendships everywhere they lived. She had a love for travel and throughout her life was grateful for the opportunity to visit sites of pilgrimage, as well as those of personal and historic significance such as the Holy Land, Rome, and other parts of Europe—experiences that deepened both her sense of wonder at His Creation and her faith in Him.
Throughout her life, her personal relationship with Jesus Christ was her foundation—the wellspring from which the love and joy she brought all whom she met flowed. Those who were blessed to know her knew Elaine as someone who listened, encouraged, and loved those around her.
She was a fabulous cook who found joy in feeding others and bringing people together. Her home was often filled with laughter, warmth, and the aroma of delicious meals on the stove. She delighted in entertaining, creating a welcoming space for friends and family and looked forward to meeting friends for bible study, bridge and a simple lunch at a local cafe.
Music filled her life—she played both piano and guitar, and lifted her voice in worship at mass and prayer meetings throughout the years. Her creativity extended beyond music; she had a natural gift for drawing and painting, capturing the beauty she saw in the world around her.
She found wonder in the simple, quiet joys of life: hummingbirds flitting by, the bloom of roses and hydrangeas, and the peace of a quiet afternoon. She lived with a grateful heart and a deep appreciation for God’s creation.
It was her walk with Jesus, the fullness of the Holy Spirit and the Father’s love that shaped her character, guided her steps, and left a lasting legacy of faith, love, and grace.
Her greatest joy in life was her family, her husband Al, the three children she raised together with him, and each of her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten—her life a beautiful reflection of the One she loved most.
She was Preceded in death: Alberty J Guidry, Sr. (husband), George Matranga (father), and Anita Matranga (nee Giardina) (mother).
