Eleanor Ormsby Rink

Born in North Hornell, NY on November 7, 1939, Ellie was the daughter of Rowland and Guinevere (Wilcox) Ormsby and the youngest of seven children. She grew up in Alfred Station and graduated from Alfred-Almond Central School, Class of ‘57. Ellie attended Alfred University and secretarial school in Rochester where she lived and worked before getting married.

Ellie married Robert (Bob) Rink on August 22, 1959 which began a 57 year adventure. They spent 2 years living in Northern California after they married then returned to the Hornell area to be closer to family. In the 1960’s Bob and Ellie purchased the Philip J. Rockwell Insurance agency which became the Rink Insurance Agency and later the Rink-Partridge Insurance Agency. For over 40 years Ellie worked alongside Bob, as office manager, serving the area’s insurance needs.

Ellie was known for her love of bridge and mahjong and played with friends and family weekly. She passed that love of cards onto her daughters and grandchildren where a “game” is still played at every family get together. She was an avid reader who always had a book within reach and a huge fan of the Buffalo Bills and the Hallmark Channel!

Ellie and Bob loved Hornell, but they also loved warmer weather and enjoyed nearly ten winters in Mexico with dear friends and then almost five years in Florida. Four years ago she compromised on the weather and moved to North Carolina to be near her family.

Besides her beautiful warm smile, Ellie was best known for her love and support of her “Rink Girls” and their families. Grandma Ellie was loved dearly!

Eleanor was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert, four sisters, Adele Zydor, Elizabeth Hall, Alberta Brown and Dorothy Argentieri, brother Rowland (Arky) Ormsby and her granddaughter, Taylor Murray.

Surviving are her three daughters, Kristine (Cooper) Murray of North Carolina, Cheryl (Drew) Morton of North Carolina and Diane (Kevin) Michaelson of New Jersey; seven grandchildren, Spencer (Brooke) Murray, Turner Murray, Cooper Murray, Ally Morton, Sydney Morton, Henry Michaelson and Brynn Michaelson, one great-grandson, Lachlan Murray, one brother, William (Teddy) Ormsby; one brother-in-law, Tom (Martha) Rink, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Ellie’s request, private services were held by the Rink Family. For those who wish to honor her life, donations may be made to the Hornell Public Library or the American Cancer Society.
