Derick, all the way back to middle school, 4th grade I believe, St.Francis, Jane's Addiction on a tape cassette player! We've kept in touch here and there along the way but never enough. I remember when you moved out to Alaska last year and chatting with you about all of it and how awesomely terrible that place can be! And when my girls graduated HS you told me you would be there to help me rush the stage if the principal didn't allow them to wear their honor society sashes! Well, he didn't, and there was a crazy amount of security, so I think we might have needed bail money! But I knew you were there if I needed you for back up! The worlds not the same without your laughter in it. Gonna miss you dude.

Well brother, I wish we could have hung out again before this. I wish we could have had a few beers while reminiscing about skateboarding through county club, that time I had to give you my guitar amp because the Santa Cruz skateboard I was buying from you got stolen at the mall, our days at St. Francis, all the fun that’s gone on since we hung out that Christmas you come to town with your wife and I got to meet her. It’s like I mentioned on Facebook the other night when I found out about your death... we had times back in the day when the crap hit the fan, but we always worked s**t out... hell when reconnected our first year in college at coastal and we were watch anime for 3 and you were teaching me to play guitar again days at your moms house. It was as if no time passed.

I know we weren’t super close anymore, but di****t how it was like no time had passed when we did get to hang.

You did good things with your life. You met and married a good woman, became a dad (I know you were a proud and good dad)... I miss you brother. I’m so sorry you’re gone. At least I have memories. I’m glad we met back in 4th grade at St. Francis. I’m glad you are my friend.

See you on the other side bro. Save me a beer!

Derick, gosh I will miss those Word with Friends games. I finally got to where I could beat you or maybe you let me win. We played so many games and your funny jokes along the way. Your sense of humor kept us all laughing. I sit here smiling as I think of your smile and the laughter you brought.

Thank you for all those good memories. We will miss you. Love you
