Harold McElroy Chrismon, Jr, age 75, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 8th, 2019 at Transitions Life Care in Raleigh, NC. Harold was born July 2nd, 1944 in Gibsonville, NC to the late Rev. Harold M. Chrismon, Sr. and Mary Jacqueline (Woodburn) Chrismon.
On September 14th, 1962 he married his beloved wife of 56 years, Beverly Joan (Hutchins) Chrismon. They relocated to the Cary/Apex area in 1967 as he embarked on a 35 year career at IBM and raised a family. Harold began his career as a junior programmer, rose to become a Development Manager involved with Application Development and Solution Quality Assurance, and ultimately served in various technical and management positions. Later in his career Harold provided Project Management support for IBM commercial customers, widely respected for his leadership and organizational abilities. He could always be counted on to provide professional mentorship and wise counsel to his fellow colleagues, friends and family. He was also an active sports enthusiast, longtime member of the White Plains Methodist Church softball team and coach for his sons in baseball.
Upon retirement he often shared his time between playing golf in North Myrtle Beach, SC and traveling to see his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. He was a wonderful family man and will be missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan, his brother Roger Chrismon and his wife Brenda of Jamestown, NC and his sister Cathy Hedgepeth and her husband Albert of Raleigh, NC. He is predeceased by his brother Errol Chrismon of Knoxville, TN.
He is also survived by his daughter, Candy Brown and her husband Barry of Willow Spring, NC, and his two sons, Jeff Chrismon and his wife Michele of Alpharetta, GA and Thad Chrismon and his wife Angie of China Grove, NC. He adored his grandchildren, Ashley, Haley, Makayla, Logan, Austin, Gavin, Nathan and Brayden and great grandchildren Lacey and Carter.
Memorial services celebrating Harold’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 3rd, 2019 at Apex Funeral Home at 550 W. Williams Street, Apex, NC with visitation following with the family.
