Her father was Wesley Wiederhold and her mother was Harriett Cynthia DeViney Wiederhold. Two of her brothers preceded her in death: Morris Wesley Wiederhold, and James Robert Wiederhold. She is survived by two brothers, Harold Lewis Wiederhold and Raymond Wallace Wiederhold, both of the Detroit area of Michigan. She had one sister, Elizabeth, who died at birth.
Marian married Douglas G. Wilson in 1941. Doug preceded her in death on 4 March 2012.
They have three children: Holly Ann Wilson Sweet married to John H. Sweet of Cary, North Carolina; Kenneth Charles Wilson married to Karyn E. (Pierson) Wilson of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and Marjorie (Maggie) Claire Wilson married to Paul Tierney of Pittsboro, North Carolina.
They have three grandchildren: Andrew Charles Wilson married to Ryan C. (Messer) Wilson of Raleigh, North Carolina; John Douglas Sweet of Cary, North Carolina; and Adrianne Melissa Wilson Joergensen of Chicago, Illinois; and two great-grandchildren, Alix Carin Wilson and Meritt Andrew Wilson of Raleigh, North Carolina.
Marian was loved by her many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Marian studied clothing design at Cass Technical High School in Detroit. She was an avid seamstress and made many of her own clothes, her children's clothes and her daughters' doll clothes. She also made many doll clothes as donations to church bazars. She was an artist who enjoyed drawing and painting. She inspired her children and grandchildren to become artists.
Marian and her family were very active in the churches where they lived, including Evergreen Presbyterian Church in Detroit, Michigan, First Presbyterian Church of Kokomo, Indiana, where she served as Deacon, taught Sunday School, and was active in her Women's Circle, and Spencer Presbyterian Church of Spencer, Indiana. She and Doug were also members of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Cary, North Carolina.
Marian loved bird watching and traveled around extensively in Indiana to visit bird sanctuaries, and kept detailed records of the birds she observed at her home. She participated in many Bird Counts. She was active at McCormick's Creek State Park Nature Center in Spencer, Indiana.
She was very involved with her children. She served as Den Mother for her son's Cub Scout Den in Detroit. She helped with her younger daughter's Brownie and GIrl Scout Troups in Kokomo, Indiana.
She volunteered at Turtle Creek Nursing Home in Kokomo. She was a volunteer at the Spencer Public Library. She taught in literacy programs in both Kokomo and Spencer.
She explored her family's genealogy and traveled throughout the Midwest and Eastern US to visit libraries and court houses for information.
Marian loved to read, play games and work puzzles and passed this love on to her children and grandchildren. Marian was an avid bridge player and played regularly throughout her life.
Her family is grateful for the support and wisdom of the staff of UNC Hospice of Chatham County during Marian's last months of life.
