

Jim was born on December 28, 1937 in Kansas City, Kansas, the youngest of 9 children. He enlisted in the Air Force the day after his graduation from High School at the age of 17 and was assigned to the USAF Security Services as a linguist specialist. After his service in the military, Jim became a CPA and eventually owned an accounting practice with his wife, Clare, in Fairfax, VA.
Jim’s accomplishments are many. He received the Meritorious Service Award, won a gold medal in the 1972 Olympics for sailing, was a pilot, and was fluent in 5 languages.
Jim will be greatly missed by his wife Clare and their children Steve, Cissy, and Fred. Clare would like to thank the staff at Duke Clinic and Duke Hospital for the extraordinary care given to Jim during his illness. She would also like to thank all of their friends at Carolina Preserve for their support over the last few years.
Private services will be held by the family at a future date.
