He completed his education in India and eventually earned his medical degree from Bangalore Medical College. After graduating from medical school he furthered his medical training in England. He trained at some of some of the finest institutions in the country to include Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Brooklyn Jewish Hospital in New York and Miami-Dade Hospital in Florida.
He then married the love of his life, Manda, in 1979 and started a family, welcoming their first son, Chetan, in 1979 and Chandan in 1982. While in Florida he operated several successful pediatric practices before moving to Fayetteville, North Carolina in 1984. While in Fayetteville, Dr. Shankar worked at Womack Army Medical Hospital serving our troops and their families as a civilian pediatrician.
