JB Young
May 24, 1937 – February 17, 2021
JB Young of Apex passed away on February 17, 2021, at the age of 83. JB was born in Nash County, North Carolina to the late Deronda Adam and Madge B. Young. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of many years, Nancy Underwood Young.
He is survived by his daughters, Christine Drayer (Jerome) of Willow Spring and Charlene Young of Holly Springs; brother, Adam Young (Velma) of Pleasanton, CA; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
For many years, JB worked (and retired) as a pathologist for the Plant Pathology Department at NCSU and conducted research at agriculture stations across the state. In addition, he enjoyed working at various athletic events and supporting the Wolfpack. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time at their vacation home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC. In addition, he treasured time spent with friends at car shows, train exhibitions, bottle shows, and club meetings. He will be dearly missed.
The family extends a thank you to the caregivers of Transitions Lifecare for the care and support provided during his illness and to all his friends for their love and support over the years.
Due to covid restrictions, the family will have a private graveside service at Apex Cemetery, NC.
A celebration of life for family and friends will be held at a later date.

Charlene, Our family extends deepest sympathy to you and family at the passing of your dad.
I worked at the College of Agriculture at NCSU and admired greatly the service your dad performed for the people of the state through the Department of Plant Pathology, especially through the research station system. I trust that your special memories will overcome the grief you have at this time .
