Jean Craft Mahoney

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ethel Craft.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, John Steven Mahoney, son Kent Mahoney and wife Maria, sisters Carol Mae Howell, Betty Jo Wooten and husband Jimmy, Jane Hudgins and husband Robert, and brother Stephen Craft and wife Loria.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 27th from 6-8pm at Apex Funeral Home, 550 West Williams Street, Apex, NC 27502. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 28th at 1pm at Penny Road Church of the Nazarene, 8509 Penny Road, Raleigh, NC 27606. Interment to follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 South Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.

She retired from teaching after 32 years. She taught at Trenton Elementary School for 11 years, followed by Willow Springs Elementary School for 21 years. Over the years she taught all grades K-3, but enjoyed 2nd the most because she got to teach students how to read.

She was a proud member of the Kinston Jaycettes where she participated in many community service projects. After retirement she served on many Appalachian Service Project teams.

She had a passion for teaching children's bible quizzing and coached the team at Penny Road Church of the Nazarene for 22 years, leading them to many first place state finishes and regional competitions.
