

Jeannette Hastings Martin passed away on April 20, 2015, while traveling in Costa Rica. Jeannette was born in Tampa, Florida, to Theodore Kern Hastings, II and Mary Alma Smith Hastings. She grew up in Orlando, Florida, and moved with her family to Cary, North Carolina, in 1972. She graduated from Carson-Newman University and later obtained a Masters in Education. She taught school for almost 30 years, primarily in Wake County at Henry Adams Elementary.
Jeannette will be remembered for her passion for her children, grandchildren, friends and life in general. She was very active, spending time with the retired Henry Adams teachers, The Heritage Pines social group, The Cary Women’s Club, The Chicks, the Muir Brook ladies, Encore/Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, the scrapbook ladies, disciple group, the Guardian Ad Litem services of Wake County and several bridge groups. Jeannette enjoyed traveling and attending the theater. Her true passion was spending time with her four daughters and she rarely missed one of her grandchildren’s activities. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and doting grandmother. Jeannette loved being with her friends who she considered her extended family. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Jeannette was predeceased by her husband of almost 47 years, Thomas Eugene Martin. She is survived by the families of her four daughters: Alice Martin Gilliland and husband Stan of Cary, North Carolina and children Stan, Kaleigh and Matt; Patti Martin-Absher and husband Stan of Raleigh, North Carolina and child Jay; Sandy Martin Clark and husband Ken of Cary, North Carolina and children Kathy and Will; and Judy Martin Moore and husband Wes of Raleigh, North Carolina and children Lauren, Caroline and Martin. She is also survived by her sisters, Martha Suther and Mary Webb, and brother Ted Hastings and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 117 S. Academy Street, Cary, NC, on Friday, April 24, 2015, at 2:00 PM. Friends may visit the family from 7-9:00 PM Thursday, April 23, 2015, at the Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams Street, Apex, NC.
