Joan “JoAnn” Bridgett King Olive, 82, loving wife and mother, passed away peacefully on April 3rd 2018 at WakeMed Raleigh after a brief illness. She was born April 26, 1935 in Raleigh to parents Edmund Solomon and Mary Wilkins Solomon King Lewter. After her father’s death, when she was 7 years old, Joan was adopted and raised by her stepfather, Graham King. She was in the last graduating class of Hugh Morrison High School and graduated from Harbarger’s College. She married Sammy Millard Olive of Apex in 1956.
Joan worked as an administrator for Schieffelin Cosmetics, Almay Cosmetics, Coke Bottling Corporation, Southeastern Microfilm and the State of North Carolina at UNC CH until her retirement in 2007. Joan loved spending time with family and traveling, especially to the beach and New York. She was a member of Olive Chapel Baptist Church since she was married and moved to the Olive farm in the Olive Chapel Community. She was an avid NCSU Wolfpack fan.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother Edmund B “Buck” King. She will be remembered and missed by her three children, Mike (Ruth) of Fuquay-Varina, Ricky of Apex, and Julie of Raleigh, and five grandchildren, Aaron Olive, Jameson Olive, Dakota Olive, Cassidy Olive and Christopher Harrison Olive.

The family will receive friends and family on Friday April 6th at 10am followed by a service at 11am in the chapel at Apex Funeral Home. Burial will be at noon at Olive Chapel Baptist Church in the Olive Chapel community of Apex, NC.
