

John Edward Duggan, 97, passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved family on June 2, 2026, in Cary, North Carolina. He was born on July 28, 1928, in Manchester, New Hampshire. John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grand father, son, brother, and treasured friend to many.
John spent more than 50 years in Northern California before moving to Cary, North Carolina where he lived his final two and a half years at The Templeton of Cary community, where he quickly developed many dear friends. John was an example of the Greatest Generation, who endured the hardships of the Great Depression and World War II. All of his life he exemplified the values of the mighty men of that generation including, heroism, humility, kindness, moral character, hard-work, love for others and for his country.
In 1945, at the age of 17, John signed up as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army. He loved to fly. Thereafter, he was enabled by the “G.I. Bill” to attend and graduate the University of New Hampshire, followed by his attendance and graduation from Georgetown School of Law in Washington, D.C., June of 1955. Following Law School he was hired by the Federal Bureau of Prisons and thereafter by the Central Intelligence Agency where John spent most of his outstanding career as a Government servant.
John was an avid golfer and achieved his first hole in one at the age of 95. John was also a runner which began in his 50’s and continued until he was 88 years. John’s beloved wife, Suzanne Duggan was by his side from the moment they met in 1949 until her death a few weeks prior to John’s passing. Married 75 years, John heroically remained devoted by her side, sweet, caring and loving until his watch was ended. He took his leave in his own way, with dignity and love, choosing not to live without the love of his life, passing 42 days after her death.
John E. Duggan is survived by his devoted seven children; 15 grandchildren and by his 19 great-grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reginald Francis Duggan and Anna Mary Gionet, his brother William Duggan and his two sisters Joanne Flannigan and Dorothy Adkins. John E. Duggan was a fiercely loving and devoted father, brother, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He will forever be loved and cherished by everyone whose lives he touched. John was an elegant man until the very end.
