Joseph Van Buren Boley

Joseph (Joe) Van Buren Boley, 89, died Monday evening, August 12, 2019, surrounded by his loving family and special friend, Esther Perry.
Joe was born April 10, 1930, in Lake Alfred, FL, son of the late Aaron West Boley and Nina Lyons Boley. He married his best friend and love of his life Betty Louise Ray on October 28, 1951 in Asheville, North Carolina.
Joe was known for his wonderful sense of humor and joyous smile. He enjoyed spending time with his family, his church and the many lasting friendships he felt blessed to have shared. He loved playing and watching golf, the Wolfpack, chocolate and delicious food. He was a wonderful gardener and loved “tinkering” in his workshop. He especially enjoyed the special times he shared with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He served the country he loved as a Marine during the Korean War. He was one of the few who made it home from the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir (Chosin Few).
Survivors include Nina B. Davis (Tony) , Dacia B. Balsley (Bill) , Laura B. Hamilton (Bob), and Michele B. Phillips; grandchildren, Jennifer Talbert (Justin) , Meredith Fisher (Preston), Stephanie Williams, Christian Phillips (Haley), and Grace Hamilton (John); loving great grandchildren Lauren and Ella Talbert, Theodore, Eloise, and Charles Fisher; and Ayla Phillips; sister Mary Camp, along with many nieces and nephews.
Joe is preceded in death by Betty, his loving wife of 59 years, his parents, Aaron and Nina Boley, and 3 sisters, Frances Boley, Ruth Shands, and Mildred Snively.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held on September 4th at 4 pm at Cary Alliance Church, 4108 Ten Ten Road, Apex, NC 27539, with Pastor Mitchell Gregory presiding. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joe’s memory can be made to Cary Alliance Church or to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Cary, NC 27607.
The family would like to thank the caregivers of Always Best Care and the medical team of Transitions Lifecare for their compassion and kindness given to our Daddy.
Daddy, Grandaddy, PapaDaddy, Uncle Joe and Mr. Joe you were so loved and will be greatly missed. Thank you for the Godly example you set for all who knew you.
