Elbert, a native of Angier, NC, was born on September 16, 1930 to the late Joseph and Alma Hockaday.
He was a Master Craftsman and home builder. He made many items for family members using his gift of woodworking that are a testament to who he was, both in deed and character.
As a member of First United Methodist Church in Cary NC, Elbert put God and family first in everything he did. He was a model for what a husband and father should be according to God’s word.
Being a Mason, Elbert’s dedication to the Masonic philosophy of helping others less fortunate was a large part of his life’s mission. He spent many years helping the children at the Masonic Home for Children At Oxford in Oxford NC.
Elbert constantly gave unselfishly to everyone around him. His kindness and generosity were equally measured out to everyone he came into contact with throughout his life.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Kathryn Goss Hockaday; daughter, Diane Hockaday, daughter Charlotte Hockaday and sister Inez Durham.
