

Joe was born May 10, 1941 in Washington, DC to the late William J. Vita Sr., and Mary Horan Vita. He was raised in Washington, DC, lived in Maryland and spent time in North Carolina visiting his daughter and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Deborah Dalby Vita; daughter Heather (Michael) Flynn; four grandchildren; Abigail (Jake) Capps, Patrick Flynn, Carly and Jenna Flynn; two great-grandchildren, Wesley and Tyler Capps. He is also survived by his brother Frank (Susan) Vita and sister, Catherine (Vaughn) Sawdon and Donny Gareca (long time cherished family friend).
He was preceded in death by a brother, William J. Vita. Jr and a sister Margaret McKnight.
He taught construction trades/skills at Montgomery Community College, MD and was a lifelong member of Sheet Metal Union Local Union 100. He was member of Grand Masonic Lodge, Washington, DC. Joe never met a stranger and was never at a loss for words. He had a kind and generous spirit and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His nieces, nephews, and grandchildren will always remember playing the money game and giving out $2 bills.
A visitation will be held on May 3rd at 10:30 am, followed by a memorial service will be held on May 3rd at 11am at Apex Funeral Home, Apex NC.
