Kimberly Eileen Muddiman

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Kimberly Eileen Muddiman (Hansen), who left us on May 23, 2026 at the age of 53. Kimberly was born in South Korea but grew up in Seattle, WA where she graduated from Western Washington University in 1995.

Kimberly E. Muddiman was a vibrant spirit with a brilliant mind and a passion for seeing children succeed. She was a devoted and loving parent to her daughter, Caitlin Jessica Muddiman who was the absolute center of her world. Kimberly E. Muddiman approached life with a generous heart, leaving behind beautiful memories for those who knew her best.

Though Kimberly navigated a long and courageous battle with mental health issues, she was so much more than her struggle. She was a beloved mother and friend. Above all, her greatest legacy and proudest achievement will forever be the love and devotion she poured into her daughter. Her passion for helping children succeed extended beyond her family and started with co-founding a Montessori pre-school in Richmond, Virginia in 1999 to being a substitute teacher in the Wake County Public School System, North Carolina.

Kimberly E Muddiman is survived by her daughter, Caitlin J. Muddiman; and her former spouse and co-parent, David C. Muddiman. She is preceded in death by her adoptive parents Carol and Gary Hansen of Seattle, WA.

A celebration of life will be held on June 13th from 2:00-5:00 at Apex Funeral Home, 550 West Williams Street, Apex, NC. All who loved her are welcome to attend and share their favorite memories. This will be followed by light refreshments at The Local (aka Backyard Bar) at 2237 Old US 1 Hwy, Apex, NC 27502) from 5:00-7:00 PM.
