Laurie Anne Brookshire passed away on September 22, 2017 while surrounded by her loved ones at her home in Holly Springs, North Carolina. Born on June 21, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Raymond V. and Patricia L. White. She graduated from Gar-Field Senior High School and attended Michigan State University. Laurie spent the majority of her years in Northern Virginia and called North Carolina home for the past ten years.
Laurie was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to so many. She was an avid reader and never met a crossword puzzle that she couldn’t solve. She was known for her love of the Washington Redskins, cooking, mystery novels, and her dearly departed boxer mix Bailey. And of course, her love of cakes from Costco and Pepsi was legendary. Her wit, sense of humor, sassy attitude and fierce proudness of her children were her very foundation.
Over the past thirteen years, her adoration for her grandchildren was what defined her…her eyes shined so very brightly and her smile was infectious when she was in the presence of her six grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. Laurie is survived by her daughter, Michelle Johnson and her husband Chris, of Holly Springs, North Carolina; son, Scott Brookshire and his wife Jessica, of Winchester, Virginia; six grandchildren; Nathaniel, Alexis, Keagan, Kellan, Kiernan, and Asher; Laurie was one of five children and is also survived by her baby brother William “Bill” White.
Laurie was preceded in death by her son, Joseph “Jay” Brookshire and her younger sister Roberta White Schimelonis.
A Memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, September 28, at 4:00 PM with Pastor Rob Keffer officiating at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W Williams St, Apex, NC 27502.
Laurie’s family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until the time of service. A reception will be held following the service.
