Leslie Walker, affectionately known as Les, 59, passed away suddenly on January 7, 2025. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, he was the son of Cecile Walker (nee Bernatchez) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, and the late George Walker.
In 1997, while on assignment with his then employer Northern Telecommunications (Nortel), Les met Audrey Robinson in Kingston, Jamaica. On April 18, 2025, Les and Audrey would have celebrated 25 years of marriage. Together, they have two daughters, Lyndsay and Alanna. As a family, they built a warm and welcoming home that was the meeting location for a myriad of gatherings by extended family and friends. Their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord led them to serve as partners in various church ministries (Sunday School, Musical and Visual Arts). Les was very involved in his community making contributions of his time and resources to Habitat for Humanity, homeless shelters, and various community food banks.
Les was a dedicated and loving husband, father, son, brother, nephew, and cousin. His Christ-like warmth, peaceful, and friendly disposition endeared him to anyone who met him. Les was a very talented and master woodworker who built anything that could be made from wood – floors, beds, doors, benches, name plaques. He enjoyed playing the guitar and led worship in the Men’s Fellowship and Sunday School. He was part of the Marriage Counselling Ministry of his church family.
Les attended University of Saskatchewan where he earned his Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Computer Science. During his career, he was first employed by Saskatchewan Telecommunications (SaskTel) and then Nortel. In 2012, he joined SAS Institute (Cary, NC) where he worked until the time of his passing. He was a loyal and dedicated employee who gave all up to the moment of his untimely passing.
Les’s untimely passing is being mourned by his wife Audrey (nee Robinson), daughters Lyndsay and Alanna, sisters-in-law Andrea (Michael), Glenner (Bruce), Arlene, and Karen (Frank), brother-in-law Lenworth, nephews Andre, Jonathan, and Daniel, nieces Rachel and Joelle, uncle Peter Bernatchez (Saskatchewan, Canada), aunts Betty Walker (Vancouver, Canada), Rita Freeman (California, USA), Rollande Jones (Calgary, Canada), Denise Nowoselski (Maynard) (Saskatchewan, Canada), and many cousins, friends, church family, and colleagues. Les was predeceased by his father George and brother Larry.
We are currently mourning the subsequent passing of Les’s mother, Cecile Walker on March 5, 2025.
