Lilija B Goodwin

Lilija B Goodwin, 98, passed away on September 15, 2026. Born on March 14, 1928, Lilija was the daughter of Fricis and Darta Biezneiks, and her life became a testament to what can grow when love, faith, and hard work are planted in good soil.

In 1949, Lilija came to the United States with her parents and younger brother, sponsored through Olive Chapel Baptist Church in Apex, NC. Her family was warmly welcomed into the home of the Olive family, whose kindness helped lay a steady foundation for a new life in America—one that Lilija would honor for decades with devotion, gratitude, and deep community ties.

Lilija’s first job after moving to America was with Apex Nurseries, a fitting beginning for someone who truly loved plants and flowers. A hard-working woman in every season of life, she found joy in being outdoors—gardening, taking her daily walks, and tending faithfully to the work set before her.

Lilija built a life rooted in family and shared purpose. She and her husband, Bobby Goodwin, farmed tobacco and raised their two sons, Robert and Calvin Goodwin. Her love for her family was steadfast and unmistakable—freely given, consistently shown, and carried with pride.

Lilija was deeply proud to be part of the Olive Chapel community. She loved her church and served in many ways, with a devoted spirit that made others feel cared for and seen. Her commitment to the hospitality committee reflected a true servant’s heart, and her years in the church nursery—lovingly caring for babies—revealed the gentle strength that so many came to cherish.

Lilija will be remembered for her steadfast love for her family, strength, resilience, and strong faith and love for Jesus. As Scripture reminds us: “ Only be careful and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and their children after them” Deuteronomy 4:9.

Lilija is preceded in death by her husband Bobby Goodwin and son Robert Goodwin.

Lilija is survived by her son Calvin Goodwin; grandchildren Tina Seagroves, Chris (Amy) Goodwin, Kim (Ben) Halker, Jessica Graves, and Nell (Erik) Jones; 11 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Visitation will be held at Olive Chapel Baptist Church, 600 New Hill Olive Chapel Rd, Apex, NC 27502, on September 21, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00am to 12:00 pm. Burial will follow the Funeral Service at Olive Chapel Baptist Church.
