Linda Kern Pagan, 78, of Holly Springs, North Carolina, formerly of Patchogue, New York, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Linda was born on September 2, 1948, in Queens, New York, to the late John and Gwendolyn "Linda" Kern.
Linda is survived by her devoted only child and son, Barrett, and his wife, Eileen; her three cherished grandchildren, Katelyn, Alex, and Matthew; her great-grandson, Logan; her brother, Steven Kern, and her lifelong best friend of over sixty years, Julie O’Donnell, who remained faithfully by her side until the very end.
For many years, Linda served as the dedicated comptroller for Electra Displays in Ronkonkoma, New York where her sharp intellect and strong work ethic earned her the deep respect of her colleagues. In addition to her corporate career, she spent decades as a beloved Avon representative, building lasting friendships with her clients and her close-knit circle of "Avon lady buddies." Together, they shared many wonderful adventures, most notably their cherished cruises to the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean. Following her retirement, Linda found a new, rewarding passion driving a school bus for special needs preschoolers. She adored the children, building unique bonds with them and filling their morning rides with joy by singing together on the bus.
Faith, family, and tradition were the true pillars of Linda’s life. As a practicing Catholic, her spiritual journey brought her immense comfort. When Linda moved to North Carolina, her welcoming heart immediately made her "everyone’s Nana" in the neighborhood, adopting the children as honorary grandchildren.
Her deepest pride, however, belonged to her own family. She shared a profound and unique bond with each of her grandchildren: Katelyn was her true "Princess"; Alex was proudly "Nana’s boy"; and Matthew constantly kept her on her toes. She was also filled with joy to be a great-grandmother to Logan, grandmother in law to Doug and honorary nana to Zarec. Traditions were incredibly sacred to Linda, especially during the holidays. She loved working alongside Alex to meticulously display her beautiful Department 56 Christmas villages and spent countless happy hours crafting gingerbread houses with Alex and her sister-in-law, Aunt Marita. A true lover of the holiday season, she kept her Christmas tree standing for as long as her family would possibly let her. Linda lived life gracefully, beautifully, and strictly on her own terms, remembered by all who loved her for her fabulous golden hair, stunning blue eyes, and her vibrant, nautical spirit.
A service to celebrate Linda's life will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Apex Funeral Home (550 W Williams St, Apex, NC 27502).
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Transitions LifeCare (Hospice) in Raleigh, North Carolina, in deep gratitude for the exceptional and compassionate care they provided to Linda and her family.
