
Lou Grady Thompson Tucker died Tuesday, March 20, 2012 in Raleigh, NC. She was born in Whiteville, NC on September 21, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Rachel Grady Thompson and the late William Edgar Thompson and was preceded in death by her sister, Valentine Thompson Winstead, and her nephew, Whitaker Thompson Winstead, of Whiteville.
She is survived by two daughters, Valentine Tucker Short of Roanoke Rapids and Rosemary Tucker Hill of Apex; three grandchildren, Anna Valentine Short of Raleigh, Adam Tucker Short of Kinston, and Mary Kathryn (Katie) Hill of Raleigh; sons-in-law, Tony Short and Richard W.(Dixie) Hill; and two nieces, Brett Valentine Winstead Winn of Youngsville and Rachel Grady Winstead Spruill of Kitty Hawk.
Mrs. Tucker graduated from Whiteville High School and Wake Forest University. She taught school for 30 years in North Carolina schools, principally in the Clinton City Schools and Swansboro High School. She later worked for 12 years as a staff member for the N.C. Legislature.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 24th at 2:00 at Apex United Methodist Church, 100 South Hughes Street, Apex. The family will receive guests in the parlor following the service.
