OBITUARY

Louis Steven Bruno

July 3, 1958November 3, 2018

Louis Steven Bruno, 60, passed away November 3rd while working with his friend Billy Ray at Bright Horizons Fellowship in Durham, NC. He was born July 3, 1958, in Frankfurt Air Force Base to Phil and Elaine Bruno of Long Island, NY. He was a loving husband to Christina Ann Bruno and father to two boys, Steven Bruno, 37, Davon Bruno, 32, father-in-law to Heather Bruno, and grandfather to Luke Bruno, 8 years old.

Louis, or Lou, as his friends knew him, joined the Air Force in 1978 and was stationed at Plattsburgh Air Force Base, where he met his future wife while out one night at a disco. They wed at Assumption of Mary Church in Redford, NY on February 16, 1980, and subsequently received an honorable discharge in 1982. Steven was born in 1981, they moved to Raleigh in 1984, and their second son, Davon, was born in 1986. Lou retired from the Fire Department in 1996 after serving ten years, his time there constituting one of his proudest achievements throughout his life. Lou spent the last several years of his life working with Sunstate Security, where he loved patrolling and going on deployments to help people, and with his friend Billy Ray, with whom he did handywork for various clients.

Lou loved working in his yard and around his house, where he constantly stayed busy with odd jobs and working in his shop, which he built with his friends. He was an exceedingly lovable man with an outsized personality, and everyone he knew will never be the same now that he has passed.

There will be a memorial service held in his honor on Tuesday, November 6th, at 2 pm at Church Alive, 5309 Umstead Rd. Fuquay Varina, NC 27526. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Raleigh Fire Museum, P.O. Box 31084, Raleigh, NC 27622; https://www.raleighfiremuseum.org/donate/

I MET LOUIS IN 1978 ON OUR FIRST DAY OF BASIC TRAINING IN THE AIR FORCE. WE BOTH GOT OUR FIRST HAIR CUT AT THE SAME TIME. WE LOST CONTACT AFTER BASIC TRAINING BUT RECENTLY CONNECTED ON FACEBOOK AND EVEN WITH ALL THE YEARS APART, THE BOND OF FRIENDSHIP THAT WE SHARED FOURTY YEARS AGO DID NOT DIMINISH. OUR BUSY SCHEDULES DID NOT DETER US FROM THE MESSAGES AND PHONES CALLS OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS. LOUIE AS I CALLED HIM AND I SHARED THE MEMORIES OF OUR PASS TOGETHER WHICH WAS FULL OF LAUGHS AND GOOD TIMES. I WILL KEEP THE MEMORIES OF MY GOOD FRIEND CLOSE FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE AND IN EVERY THOUGHT I CAN HEAR HIS VOICE CALLING TO ME "SKIP, BRO WHAT UP". MY DEEPEST CONDOLENCES TO TINA AND THE REST OF THE BRUNO FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

I had the pleasure of meeting Lou Bruno during our training for the City of Raleigh Fire Academy. He was only one of twenty five individuals, but he had a special way of bringing entertainment to each day. I’m sorry to hear this news. I wish the family peace and comfort during this time and the days to come.

My father and Louie's Mom - Leni, grew up together. As such, Louie, Gary and Gloria were more like cousins to me than friends. I looked up to Louie and was so happy when he met Tina, married and then relocated to a new life in North Carolina. We lost touch but it is obvious that he led a happy, fulfilled and loving life surrounded by a beautiful family and friends. My heart and prayers go out to all of you as you mourn. All my love always, Lisa.

Tina and all- praying that you all can find peace and comfort through our Lord knowing Lou is home with Him. I am in California now but will talk with you when I get home. Remembering the time I met Lou at the park with one of our play dates with Luke and Bailey. Sending love-Kathy
