Louise Matheny Squires York, 81, of Cary, died peacefully by her husband's side Thursday, May 28, 2026. She was born February 26, 1945 in Charlotte NC, the eldest child of James Williamson Squires and Eleanor Fessenden Squires. She attended Myers Park High School and Wake Forest University.

She served as the Executive Director of the United Way of Randolph County and later as a real estate agent in Hampstead and Charlotte. She was a proud recipient of the Athena Award in 1987. She loved her time at the beach and large family gatherings as well as traveling and spending time with her friends and neighbors. She recently enjoyed attending Myers Park High School reunion class of 1963 and a trip to Hawaii with her husband.

She is survived by her husband Ronald York of Cary, Children; Robert Ferree IV and wife Kaye of Summerfield, NC, Kathryn Skeen and husband Mark of Florence, SC; Stepson Michael York and wife Jill of Raleigh; Grandchildren, Daniel Ferree, Meredith Ferree, Abbie Schelble and husband Chase of Charleston, SC, Noah Skeen and wife Sierra of Inman, SC, Ella Skeen, Emory York. She was also overjoyed to meet her first great-granddaughter Blair Skeen just a few weeks ago; Siblings, Eleanor Gow of Harrisburg, Beth Truelove (Gerald) of Chapel Hill, James Squires (Beth) of Charlotte, and Jane Hollar (Bill) of Charlotte. She also had a large circle of special neighbors and friends of which she spent joyful time with.

A private celebration of her life and interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate any donations in her honor be made to a charity she loved and appreciated.
