

She was married to Albert Durgett from 1953 until his passing in 2013. Throughout her life, Mae was active both professionally and socially. She worked as a seamstress for Lynn Green Designs and was a realtor for 20 years. After retiring she worked for 2 separate bridal shops & operated her own clothing alterations business. While raising her children she was a Girl Scout leader for 8 years & a counselor for 7 years at the Crisis Program Center. During their 60 years of marriage Mae and Al lived in several different communities where at each new location they would become involved in a variety of volunteer activities both together and separately singing in church choirs, acting in plays and helping with Marriage Encounter retreats. For many years Al and Mae would dress as Mr. and Mrs. Claus for all sorts of community and church events. At the young age of 80, Mae would fulfill a lifelong dream and became an altar server in the Catholic Church. Mae moved to Fuquay-Varina in 2013 where she continued being involved in the church and the community. She joined Saint Bernadette Catholic Church where she participated in Knots of Love, the parish craft group and the parish quilting group. Mae was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas and she also volunteered at the local Hand of Hope Pregnancy Center for several years.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, Albert Durgett, brother Samuel Lutri, and sisters Mary Alessi & Antoinette Fern.
She is survived by son, Mark A Durgett, daughter Kathleen Durgett-Gordo, grandchildren, Mark A Durgett Jr, Kayla Gordo and Tome Gordo IV and great grandson Tome Gordo V.
