Peggy was born on November 13, 1943, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Overton Wilson “O.W.” Clayton and Margaret Belle McCauley Clayton. She was one of four daughters. As a child, she was an avid swimmer and dancer, teaching dance classes during her teenage years. Her summers spent at Tennessee Camp for Diabetic Children, or “T.C.D.C” had a profound impact on her life and helped shape both her personal and professional life.
Peggy was a nationally known clinical pharmacist practitioner with expertise and board certification in diabetes management and education. She graduated valedictorian from the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Pharmacy and later received her MS from the UNC School of Pharmacy and her PharmD from the University of Florida School of Pharmacy. She held several clinical consultant and educator professorships at both UNC and Campbell University Schools of Pharmacy, and ran the Diabetes Care Center in Cary, NC. She was a Fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and received multiple awards for her community and professional practice from the American Pharmaceutical Association, American Diabetes Association, and others. She retired as Professor Emeritus, School of Pharmacy, from Campbell University in 2004.
Peggy served on several Baptist mission trips to Haiti and was most recently a member of Hilltop Baptist Church. She had a passion for teaching and writing, and she also enjoyed cooking, bread making, reading and sewing in her spare time. Her faithful dog companions—three poodles—brought her great joy over the years. But most of all, Peggy adored her children and grandchildren. Family beach trips and cookouts by the pool were memories most treasured by her.
Peggy is survived by her beloved husband of 44 years, Frank Yarborough; sisters, Carol Norris and Ginger (Darrel) Moser; children, Karen (Mark) Pugmire, Frances Harris, Frank B (Jan) Yarborough, Frank (Pam) Yarborough Jr., and Kathryn Gebhardt; grandchildren, Stacy, Nick, and Chris Petersen, Joey and Daniel Harris, Kyle, Dale, and Jack Yarborough, Noah and Hannah Yarborough, and Gray and Margaret Grace Goodman; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Patty Harris.
