It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother Maria Murello. Her final moments were spent peacefully surrounded by those who loved her and music filled the air. She dedicated her life to being a devoted wife, compassionate mother and a cherished grandmother.
Maria was born in Puerto Rico but grew up in Brooklyn, NY and always considered that her home. Her life there was filled with countless family members, parties with music and dancing and of course delicious food.
At the age of 18, she met her adored husband Tony or as she called him “Hun”. They spent 64 beautiful years together in New York, Florida and North Carolina. They worked hard to create an amazing life and travelled the world.
Maria could always be found dancing or exercising, anything to keep busy. She took classes in ceramics, yoga, and even car mechanics. Maria took pride in creating a welcoming and meticulous home where family and friends always found comfort. Maria will always be known for her love of frogs. With a large and ever growing collection in every room of the house. Maria loved gathering with friends and family surrounded by laughter and good stories.
Maria would tell you her greatest blessings in life were the births of her daughter Donna and her granddaughters Reilly and Casey. They made her life brighter and bigger than she ever thought possible. Their visits gave her great joy and she always made sure to have the tea parties ready and trips to the parks planned.
Maria is survived by her husband Tony, daughter Donna, son-in-law Patrick, and granddaughters Reilly and Casey. She is also survived by her two sisters, a brother and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved and cherished dearly.
Maria leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and compassion. Her generous spirit and endless warmth will forever be remembered by all whose lives she touched.
Family will receive friends and guests on Monday September 14, 2026 from 4-7 at Apex Funeral Home for visitation immediately followed by service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Maria’s name to either Michael’s Cause organization or your local animal shelter to support her love of animals.
