Matt was a video producer/editor and Instructional Designer in San Francisco, CA. He's had a wild career, a good life, and enjoyed new challenges and fun projects. Matt enjoyed cooking, playing video games, and reading stories about spacefaring pirates and civil engineering.
Matt was a cherished and deeply loved son, brother, grandson, nephew and cousin and a true friend to many. To family and friends who knew him best, Matt will be remembered as an exceptionally tenderhearted and compassionate soul. Always there to selflessly help others. Matt's brother, Dan, said it best; Matt cared for everything and everyone around him.
Matt was born on August 15, 1983 at Clear Lake Hospital in Webster, Texas. A happy, healthy baby at 8 lbs 8 oz born to Mike and Debbie. Matt grew up in Webster, Texas / Topeka, Kansas / Kankakee, Illinois and Cary, North Carolina.
Matt had one younger brother, Daniel. Matt and Daniel were best friends growing up and they shared many fun, memorable experiences over the years.
As a young boy, Matt had a number of interests. Like most children, he enjoyed playing, riding his bicycle, reading books and comic books, building with Lego's, racing Hot Wheels, putting together meticulously thought out strategies for GI Joes and playing Nintendo. He had a special interest in baseball. Several home run balls were part of his trophy collection. Matt always looked forward to being a camper at Camp Carolina Trails for children with Type 1 Diabetes. In his teenage years he enjoyed helping the children in the role of counselor. However, to Matt, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his brother and friends.
A typical teenager, Matt had a happy high school experience. He graduated from Athens Drive High School in 2001 and went on to attend NC State College of Engineering.
Always considered a "good" friend to those he knew, Matt enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime.
Matt enjoyed his dream job of Instructional Designer and E-Learning Developer. Showing a strong work ethic, Matt worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. Matt always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Matt enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were cooking, watching cooking shows, reading, board games and video games. Matt was an avid cook and would undoubtedly deliver a fancy presentation if you were lucky enough for him to prepare you a meal. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was always willing to share his interests with others.
Matt enjoyed baseball and always appreciated a good American baseball game.
Vacation travels were always a special time. New places to visit and new things to experience. Favorite vacations included 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, trips to Toronto, Florida - Universal Studios, San Diego -Disneyland, London, Copenhagen, Sweden, Seattle, Portland, Lake Tahoe and special visits with family in Georgia and Florida.
Matt cherished his time at Camp Carolina Trails, a camp for children with Type 1 Diabetes, as both a camper and eventually camp counselor. In Matt's memory, hearts will be filled with joy if you would donate to the American Diabetes Association, Camp Carolina Trails in lieu of flowers.
Simply stated, Matt was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Matt leaves behind a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Matthew "Matt" Taylor Auer.
