Anyone who knows or is close to the Mongone family knows that every time you walk in the doors of their home you immediately feel love. The mongone family is one of the most caring, kind, and welcoming families i know and each and every one of them mean so much to me. Mrs Merri has been such an important person in my life and so many others and will always be remembered. My heart aches with the loss of her but she was a fighter who wouldn’t give up.  Thank you for everything you ever did for me Mrs Merri and the love you showed me. You will forever have a special place in my heart. We miss and love you🤍

Frankie and Family - My deepest condolences for the loss of Mary - she always kept you in line when I would get the opportunity to visit you all while still living in Florida (especially when she knew you would get a beating in basketball :) ).  My family's prayers are with you to keep your head high, remembering the good family times while she was here on earth, and to be at peace knowing she was a child of God and has ascended into Heaven.

The Mongone’s were my second family, i remember going over there and always having the best times. Merri was just like my second mom with her amazing personality and precious beautiful smile, she always made me feel that if i ever needed to talk to her i could, or if i ever needed a place to stay. She also taught me how to use that peloton bike which really got my legs pumping, anyways I look up to every single person in the Mongone family they are all just apart of me. They all deserve the world because Merri was such a fighter and didn’t deserve to go this early. Although i wasn’t able to make it to this special night due to covid i just wanted to say that Merri made me think to never take a day for granted ever again, looking up to you forever and always i love you momma#2 rest in paradise beautiful❤️

I was Brooklyn’s Kindergarten teacher in a virtual setting so that meant tons of communication with parents. She was more than a parent of my student or a coworker. She was my friend.  We hit it off because we had both taught in Florida and all immersed in teaching. 
Even though it was a stressful year, Merridith and I would hear each other teaching in the Hortons household. We were both very Loud teachers and always chatted via text and in the hallway about fun antics that happened during the day or how to help Brooklyn as she was “not a primary teacher.” We were also always get personal emails from the attendance clerk saying SUBMIT your attendance! We were attendance procrastinators and to not be called out would text to remind each other to submit attendance! She will be so missed! But I know she is up in heaven reminding me to submit my attendance! 

Sending condolences to the Mongone and Olshan families on the passing of Merri.  I have fond memories of Merri, and her family, at all the celebrations and parties at Maureen and Alan's house.   Merri was a sweet person and great mother to her beautiful daughters.  May she rest in peace.

There are no words to express our deep sadness we all feel over the loss of Merri, but we know she will live on in Gianna, Camryn, MaKenzie and Brooklyn. We are forever grateful for the love, kindness and support Merri gave to our son Ethan.  She is so much more to him then his girlfriends mother, she became his second mother, a friend, a confidant, to name a few and now his guardian angel.  Today we will come together as one big family to say goodbye to a life taken way to soon, which none of us are ready to do.  May the Lord help guide everyone, through this difficult day.

Merridith was the first person I met when we started at SRE the same year. In a welcome group text to new teachers, I saw a 954 phone number. Excited to meet a fellow Floridian who had also moved to NC, I texted her and our friendship began. In one of our last conversations, I texted to ask how she was and let her know we were all praying for her. From her hospital bed, Merridith was instead telling me to take it easy knowing I was back at school after some health issues of my own. That’s Merridith. She was always thinking of others first with her kind heart and trademark smile. A smile we will all miss dearly. 

I remember when my whole family including the dogs went to the mountains and mom was so excited to see snow on the ground.
She had the biggest smile on her face and I will always remember that trip. And the night before we went to the mountain’s  we lost finn (our dog) and mom would not leave the site where he ran away until she found him. She never gave up! She always did everything she could to make her kids and her family happy!

I remeber one day asking mom if she wanted to go to Brendan’s (my boyfriend) baseball game. Of course she said “I’d love to and won’t miss it”. That she made sure of, she then brought up the idea of making shirts. Knowing my family I said yes and we went straight to Micheal’s. Had the shirts made and mom was laughing and smiling getting g  the whole family to wear one and going out looking crazy. The whole time with the biggest smile on her face not for one minute thinking about other things she could be doing. She sat and watched the game that’s she never had to go to in the first place and cheered him on like he was her own.  My mom will always be remembered for her smile, her laugh, her huge heart and her amazing personality. May god stand by us in this time and watch over us as well as you and grandpa. 

Field Trip fun to Old Salem Museum & Gardens. Merridith loved having fun with her classes. We enjoyed spending time together on the field trip to Old Salem.

Thanksgiving fun with the Mongone's! Merridith and her family brought fun and laughter to our Thanksgiving one year!

We were walking down the hall one day at Scotts Ridge, a little too fast, and she slipped and fell. When she realized she wasn't hurt, she said well that was embarrassing laughed, and kept going.  I often called her the Energizer Bunny - she never stopped! She was always taking care of the students in her class or her own girls. She rarely took time for herself. She loved hosting get-togethers at her house for our team.  She worked hard, played hard, and her love for her girls was fierce! Her smile will be missed by all!

May you find comfort knowing your time here on  earth as a mother, wife, and teacher was profound and admired by all and your daughters strong like you. I will cherish the memories we shared. Rest peacefully sweet Mer ❤️

One evening my wife Halle and I were checking on our home being built in Linden which ended up being just two doors down from their new home. An SUV was driving by and stopped to say hi. It was Merridith and her family. They had moved from South Florida recently and so had we. Brooklyn, their youngest, was playing with rocks in our driveway. We knew they were great people and we were excited to live in a great neighborhood. 

That was Merridith. Just nice and really friendly. Warm, inviting and part of a good family. 

This is how we will always remember Merridith. 

There are no words to express fully one’s feelings.  Merridith was my daughter’s friend and fellow co-worker as a teacher. Not only that but the mother of my grandson’s girlfriend, Camyrn.  My brief meetings with her blessed my heart…to know her was a blessing.   May the Lord draw this family to him and grant them piece in the midst of this storm.  

Mrs Mongone was a wonderful teacher even when we had to go to virtual learning.  I’m so happy she got to live in her dream home since she talked about it
It all the time in the classroom!  I remember when she cut her finger and probably needed stitches but continued to run the fun activities we had planned for Grinch day!  She will be missed but am  certain she touched  the lives of many students and will continue to in heaven!
