A beautiful tribute to honor a wonderful human being, a man who loved the Lord, loved his wife and loved his family all through the Giving of himself! He was honored in humor and laughter as he honored us with his own humor. Thank you my brother for the short time I had with you and for always bringing a smile not only to my face but forever etched in my heart! I know when you entered the gates of Heaven you heard the words, "my good and faithful servant"..To God be the Glory, as you reign with Him in Heaven. We will live and miss you always!

His laugh, his smile, his hugs, and the way he always called me “sweetie” will live on with me forever. I couldn’t have asked for a better uncle, and definitely not a funnier one. His humor was as contagious as his love for his family. Although he left this world too early, I know for sure that he was given a lifetimes worth of true love when he met, and married his beautiful wife. I’m so grateful for the loving, warrior she was for him all the way to the end. I pray that his youngest son finds peace and comfort in knowing that he will always be watching over him and that he was and is so very proud of everything that he’s accomplished through times that have been more than trying. I know he will find ways to show his favorite little brother, and baby sister that he is still with them in ways of joy and laughter that only he could bring. I’m confident that he will sooth the aching hearts of his parents, with hugs in their dreams and warm smiles on the days that are tougher on their hearts than others. I find peace in knowing he is reunited with his oldest son. Together, they will be a strong set of loving eyes looking on everyone that meant so much to them in this world, and waiting patiently and proudly to be together again in the next one.

I want to let the family know I’m praying for your peace of mind 🙏🙏 Kevin was a great guy. He was funny and loved his friends and family. We all know it is never easy to lose a loved one. But we know he had fought a good fight but now he is pain free. God bless you all in this time of sorrow 🙏🙏🙏

Kevin was my first friend outside of siblings and cousins. The Nelsons lived across the street from my family on Meadows Street when we were very little (before we were in school). And we were in school together and ultimately graduated from high school together (Class of '77 NBSHS) -- everyone loved Kevin -- he was always such a good person and so much fun to be around. He will be missed and our memories of Kevin will be cherished.

To: Michael Kevin Nelson. I remember the good times when we first met at Trent Park Elementary School. You kept me laughing all the time. 😊😊I will never forget when you played "Ebenezer Scoorge" in the Christmas play, "The Christmas Carol." This was in the 6th grade Mrs. Moore's class. Then on to New Bern Senior High School. You always treated me like a friend. You didn't care if I was black, or any other race. Thanks for the good times. Class of "77". Love you Kevin!! Mrs Nelson/ family, I pray God give you peace and comfort.

Kevin will be missed by so many. As a classmate of New Bern High School '77, there is an unbreakable bond. As on Earth we will see one another again in Heaven one day. He was a beautiful child of God. Now he will watch over us all from above. God Bless.

Growing up with Kevin was a great joy; from Trent Park Elementary to New Bern High School to ECU. The old neighborhood on Center Ave was very special in my heart, most of the great memories being around Kevin and his family. Prayers of comfort and spiritual healing to his family in a huge loss.
