Mildred Elizabeth Williams Cromer gained her angel wings on October 23, 2023, at her home in Fuquay Varina, North Carolina. Mildred Cromer was Blessed with a long life and lived to be the Golden Age of 100 years old. Daughter of now deceased parents, Lorraine Bryant and Theodore Williams, and sister Beatrice Wilkens, now deceased. Mildred attended Girl's Highs School, where she received her high school diploma.
Mildred Cromer's life, or "Millie", which she was lovingly called, would seem too short to many, but those of us who were blessed to be touched by her, understand that her existence and the imprint she left on our hearts exceed the quantity of time that she stayed here. Mildred was talented and creative in many aspects of her life. "Gram", in which she also was lovingly called by her grandchildren was a master of sewing, as she worked many years as a seamstress in New York City and also, an avid gardener, who enjoyed keeping her yards landscaped to perfection, while diligently tending a garden which consistently provided fruits and vegetables for her family to eat.
When Mildred wasn't working or tending to the maintenances of her home, she could be found engaging in her lifelong pastime of reading, doing crossword puzzles, scrapbooking, and especially in her later years, escaping to her room, where she would relax, while taking in the sultry sounds of one of her favorite male singers, Mr. Aaron Neville.
Not a day went by when Mildred didn't talk about how much her children and family meant to her. As the Matriarch of her family, many times, she would spend her week, calling close family and loved ones and check-in with them, to make sure everything was okay. It was quite common for her to call, leave a message and if she didn't reach you, she's reaching out to someone else, asking about you. Her heart and loving care for her family was relentless. Mildred's family was arguably her most important achievement in life.
Mildred is survived by her loving daughter Joyce Mayfield, her son-in-law James Douglas Mayfield Sr., her grandchildren Anthony Cromer, Bryan Mayfield, Donnell Cromer, Leah Cromer, her Great-Grandchildren, Melissa Mayfield, James Mayfield, and Christian Daniels, Nyla Cromer, her niece, Lorraine Lavington, Nephew Earl Wilkens, and a host of great nieces and nephews, extensive cousins and host of family friends. Mildred was predeceased by her loving son, the late Allen Cromer and her precious grandson, the late James Douglas Mayfield jr.
A loving woman, and gift to all, Mildred Cromer will be sorely missed. We are grateful for the time God has allowed us to share with her. May she forever rest in the loving hands, of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
A visitation for Mildred will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W Williams St, Apex, NC 27502 with a funeral service to follow.
