

Mozelle Howell Montague, a lifelong resident of Wake County died Sunday December 9th at North Fulton Hospital in Roswell, GA. The funeral service will be held Friday, December 14th, at 2:00 pm, at Salem Baptist Church near Apex, with visitation held at the church starting at 1:00 pm. The service will be conducted by Dr. Jeff Beckett.
A woman of strong faith, she was truly on loan from God for all of her 91 years. She was loved deeply not only by those who knew her best but also by the scores of lives she touched during her many years with us. Her deep and caring compassion for all those around her and her humble spirit were special gifts from God. She was a longtime member of Salem Baptist Church and served her church in many capacities which included singing in the choir, teaching Bible Study in women’s adult classes for 38 years, and serving as Chairman of Missions Activity in the Raleigh Baptist Association. In 1977 she was elected to serve as a deacon of the Church. In 1979 she was chosen by that body to serve as chairman. She felt very honored to have been chosen for these positions.
Mrs. Montague retired from the North Carolina State Government in December 1985 and was honored with a retirement reception in the rotunda of the State Capitol She served the State in the following capacities: Personnel Analyst in the Office of State Personnel; Administrative Assistant for Appointments to Boards and Commission in during Governor Bob Scott’s administration; as Staff Assistant she worked with Senator Lindsay Warren on the Study Commission on Higher Education; and worked in the North Carolina State Senate as Committee Clerk for the Senate Finance Committee as supervisor of Senate committee clerks. In addition to having this demanding career she raised two children and helped her husband manage a large commercial egg operation.
Mrs. Montague is survived by her children, Robert E. Howell and wife Cherry of Sasser, GA; Diane Howell Rankin and husband Bill of Duluth, GA; stepson Alan Montague of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Robert Howell, Jr., Joel Rankin, Andrew Rankin and his wife Ellen Jenkins Rankin, Andrew Marshall, Harris Marshall, Dare Montague and Alan Montague, Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents Mr. & Mrs. W. E. Mimms, husbands Robert Henry Howell and Archer Allen Montague, a grandson Brian Howell, a brother William Earl Mimms, Jr. and a sister Carmen Mimms Bagwell.
