Patricia Anne (Perry) English, 87 years old, passed quietly on June 1, 2025, at Sunrise of Cary. Pat was born to the late Helen (Baker) Perry and Robert Joseph Perry in Kingston, NY on September 10, 1937. Her father passed when she was young; she was raised by her mother with loving attention from her extended family. As she reached young adulthood, her mother welcomed her step-father, the late Salvatore Castiglione, into their lives. Pat was a 1958 graduate of State Teachers College at New Paltz (now SUNY New Paltz). She taught 4th grade at Chambers School in Kingston and then substituted in Poughkeepsie, but really, she was a teacher to all for the rest of her life.
Pat was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, C. Richard (Dick) English, and her sister Joan (Perry) Stoutenburg. She leaves behind her four children: Kathy (Jerry) Shengulette of Apex, NC; Jim (Claire) English of Clearwater, FL; Jerry (Becky) English of Glen Ellyn, IL; and Ken (Sarah) English of Lockport, NY; her cousin and lifelong best friend, Gail (Pieper) Brice of Laurel, MT; and numerous other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Nothing made Pat happier than her grandchildren: Russell, Caileigh and Abbi Shengulette; Gwynne English; Chris and Ben English; and Drew, Will and Kate English.
Pat and Dick moved to Apex, NC, after his retirement. They were active in their church community; Pat volunteered in classrooms at St. Mary Magdalene. She enjoyed playing cards socially and was involved with Apex Newcomers and Friends. Rest assured “she’s got next” on some playground in the afterlife.
A service will be held at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Apex, Monday June 30, 2025 at 2pm.
With her father passing early, Pat often mentioned that her family benefited greatly from the charity of others. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a donation to The Salvation Army in memory of Pat. Donations can be made at https://centralusa.salvationarmy.org/usc/red-kettle-campaign/. Think of Pat the next time you drop change in the kettle over the holidays where some very special people benefit from your generosity.
