She was the loving wife of David Sr. (2011) and the proud mother of David G. Taylor Jr (MAJ, US Army; killed in action in Baghdad, 2006) and John.
Kay was born and raised in Apex to Doris and JC Overman. She and David Sr. were NC State graduates. Kay left the farm and joined her military husband. They were stationed in TN, TX, NC and Germany. It was Germany where Kay truly shined. She worked as a tour guide taking US military on bus tours to Holland, England and Switzerland. Kay chose to stay home and raise her two boys, but she always had a calling to educate. In 1988 she became a teacher in Heidelberg, Germany, teaching military dependents and she spent the next 28 years helping to shape the minds of our future. She was Dept. of Defense Pacific Teacher of the Year and spent her career welcoming and mentoring teachers.
Kay worked tirelessly in support of our country and especially the men and women who fought for us. She was a huge supporter for Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) and in 2019 she was awarded Peer Mentor of the Year.
Kay taught her students that freedom isn’t free and there are selfless people who put themselves in harm’s way to ensure we have the rights and freedoms we enjoy today.
Kay is survived by her daughter in law Michelle and grandson Jake in FL and her son John and daughter in law, Martina, in Belgium, her grandson Richard in TX, her granddaughter Katja and great granddaughter Aurora and great grandson Thomas in TX. She loved her family with all her heart, and she blessed and prayed for us all. In lieu of flowers, Kay would have wanted us to donate school supplies to a teacher friend or donate to the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors. https://www.taps.org/ or to Olive Chapel Baptist Church https://www.olivechapel.org/.
A visitation will be held at Olive Chapel Baptist Church on 600 New Hill Olive Chapel Rd, Apex, NC 27502 at 10:00 AM. A funeral service will be held after at 11:00AM. A graveside service will follow.
