

Richard W. Howarth, 96 of Cary, NC passed away on May 23, 2026. Born on January 14, 1930, in Newark, New Jersey, Richard was the son of the late Frank and Clara Howarth. He proudly served his country during the Korean War before dedicating 26 years to the Newark Fire Department as a firefighter. Throughout his life, Richard was known for his strong work ethic, unwavering integrity, kindness, loyalty, and generous spirit. His commitment to serving others, both in his profession and personal life, earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him. Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose greatest joy came from sharing life with those he loved. Together with his beloved wife, he embarked on more than 30 cruises, explored numerous National Parks, and created lasting memories with family and friends. He found pleasure in gardening, traveling, and spending quality time with his family. A lifelong practicing Catholic, Richard's faith was a guiding force throughout his life, shaping his values and his commitment to serving others.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Clara Howarth, and his twelve brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann Maggio Howarth; his son, Rich Howarth and wife Staci; his daughter, Maryann Schaffer and husband Frank; and his four cherished grandchildren, Daniel, Sarah, Ryan, and Jillian.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, June 4th, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 3008 Old Raleigh Road, Apex, North Carolina. Following the Mass, family and friends were invited to a reception and time of fellowship at Templeton Heater Hall in Cary, NC.
Richard's life was marked by faith, service, devotion to family, and a deep appreciation for the friendships he cultivated throughout his 96 years. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
