Robert Arthur Nery Jr

Mr. Robert A. Nery, Jr., 64, went to be with his heavenly father on December 12, 2012. He is survived by his wife Karen Powell Nery, son Carl and wife Kristen, daughter Abigail Stephenson and husband Mark. Parents Robert and Genelle Nery, brother Tom and wife Sharon, sister Betty Ann LaPoint and husband Ken, mother-in-law Iris Powell, sister-in-law Gina Hardy and husband Chip and nephews, Chris and Jeff LaPoint and Ben Hardy.

The visitation will be held from 7-9 pm Saturday at Apex Funeral Home. Funeral 1 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Powell Family Cemetery, Kenansville, NC at 4 pm.

Bob was born on November 19, 1948 in Raleigh, NC and grew up in Abington, MA. He returned to North Carolina to attend NC State University and graduated from Campbell University. For over 35 years he taught at Spring Hill School, Dorothea Dix Hospital. Outside his family, Bob’s greatest joy was playing clarinet. He loved to play Dixieland Jazz and loved his many musician friends who were his other family. He faithfully served at Reedy Creek Baptist Church as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and anything else he was asked to do.
