Robert Judson Sears, 60, died Saturday, November 06, 2010, at Wake Medical Center after suffering a massive stroke on October 8. He was born on June 18, 1950, on the farm in Wake County where he grew up. He was baptized at Good Hope Baptist Church, and attended Green Hope Elementary School, Apex High School, and Campbell College before earning an associate’s degree in computer science at Holding Tech (now Wake Tech). He was a gifted computer programmer, but his real love was being on the water, fishing, and handling his charter boat. After he retired from Progress Energy, he spent as much time as he could at Morehead and Atlantic Beach. He spent many happy days with his wife Brenda and his two beautiful daughters in the sun at Shackleford Banks and later also with his grandchildren. He was a wonderful father and grandfather who adored his wife and family. He was very giving and caring, and sacrificed his own pursuits to take care of his beloved Brenda when she was stricken with Alzheimer’s.
He is survived by his wife Brenda C. Sears and two daughters, Emily Hendricks and her fiancé Gregory Gore, and Dana Fontaine and her husband Kevin. He is also survived by 3 beautiful grandchildren, Melissa Hendricks, Griffin Fontaine, and Taylor Fontaine, and by his parents, John and Maggie Belle Sears. Other survivors include 4 siblings, William Sears and wife Rita, Tommy Sears and wife Brenda, Linda Suggs and husband Jack, and Bruce Sears and wife Beth. He is also survived by 5 nieces and nephews and many, many friends, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family will receive friends at Apex Funeral Home on Thursday, November 11, 2010, from 6 to 8 pm. His ashes will be spread in a private family service at Shackleford Banks.
