Roland "Ron" Mendler, Sr., resident of Apex (NC), and former resident of Hughesville (PA) passed away unexpectedly on the 8th of February, 2012, at the much too young age of 64. The son of Chris and Grace Mendler, Ron is survived by the love of his life, Connie, their five wonderful children: Ronnie, Todd and his wife Michelle, Kim and her husband Jimmie, Matt and his wife Trang, and Chris and his wife Stef, twelve rambunctious and loving grandchildren: Madison, Cameron, Peyton, Makenzie, Brady, Bryce, Colton, Reece, Drew, Triniti, Zachary, and Jacob, all who joyously monopolized his free time, his older brother and best friend Bill and his wife Arlene, and his favorite younger sister Cindy and her husband Roy.
After graduating from Williamsport High School (PA) in 1965, Ron and Connie were married on the 31st of August, 1968, just prior to Ron's entry into the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Biloxi (MS), Fairbanks (AK) and a special, final assignment at the Pentagon in Washington (DC). Following his time serving our country, Ron held an assortment of challenging roles in the continually advancing field of information technology at schools, hospitals, nuclear power companies, and most recently for Allscripts, a leading healthcare software company based in Raleigh (NC).
Until the day he died, Ron spent countless hours developing and nurturing a pond full of koi, amid his own Garden of Eden. When the koi were fed and the bird feeders were filled, Ron enjoyed wood working, model trains, and being the proud skipper and tour guide on his own 22 foot vessel on Jordan Lake in Apex (NC). Ron's generosity and wonderful humor will be missed by his countless friends, neighbors, and relatives who cherished spending time with him.
Family will receive visitors from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Apex Funeral Home, 550 West Williams St, Apex, NC.
