Born on August 10, 1937, in Yonkers, New York, Ruth was raised in Brooklyn and later made homes in New Jersey, Florida, and finally North Carolina. She was the third oldest of six siblings—but as the oldest girl, she naturally took on a caretaker role, always looking after those around her with strength, compassion, and a fierce sense of loyalty.
Ruth was known for her quick wit, strong spirit, and deep devotion to her family. She had a way of making people laugh and lighting up a room with her presence. She found joy in life’s little pleasures—whether sharing a laugh, playing her lucky numbers, or enjoying a well-made "Sweet Rob Roy on the Rocks."
She is survived by her loving sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Diane Abate, and Gregg and Toni Abate; her cherished grandchildren, Anna, Sara, Steven, Amanda, and Nick, her beloved sisters, Barbara Quast and Joan Molnar, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her beloved brothers Thomas Frey, William Frey, and Richard Frey.
A visitation for Ruth will be held Monday, June 2, 2025 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 804 High House Rd, Cary, NC 27513, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM.
Ruth’s legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched, the family she guided, and the stories that will be told for generations. She will be remembered with love, laughter, and gratitude for the life she so fully lived.
