Born Susan Carole DuBois in Weehawken, New Jersey on September 4, 1951 to Howard and Lois (Ram) DuBois. Sue often moved with her family throughout the U.S. due to her father’s career. The family finally settled in River Vale, NJ in the late 60’s. Sue graduated from Pascack Hills High School in 1969. Upon graduation, Sue landed a job with IBM where she retired after 25 years. She moved to Cary, North Carolina and started/retired from a second career at ABB Inc.
Sue was predeceased by her parents, forever confidante, Gail Russo; brother in law, Harold D. Leavell Jr. and stray cat, Gus.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her siblings, Jacqueline DuBois of Cary, North Carolina, Marilyn Leavell of River Vale, New Jersey, and Dean (Patricia) DuBois of Mahwah, New Jersey. She was the beloved aunt of Chrissy Leavell (Jesús Gutiérrez) of Tucson, Arizona and Barcelona Spain, Mason DuBois of Mahwah, New Jersey, and Ryder DuBois of Mahwah, New Jersey. Sue also is survived by her paternal and maternal cousins and their families. Sue maintained a lifelong friendship with her high school best friend, Linda Isbell, as well as friendships with several colleagues and golf buddies. She will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Sue was a passionate and talented golfer who managed to achieve a rare hole-in-one on June 29, 1991 at Central Valley Golf Club. A determined golfer, Sue managed to accomplish this incredible feat three more times: 10/25/2011 at Chapel Hill Country Club, 11/16/2013 at The Preserve at Jordan Lake Golf Club and 4/27/2016 at Heritage Club. Some of her fondest memories were of days spent on the course and she continued to play throughout retirement at The Golf Club at Chapel Ridge and Lochmere Golf Club in Cary, North Carolina.
Besides golf, Sue enjoyed sailing, skiing, gardening, classic rock music, good food, politics, and day trading. She cherished being an aunt and adored Chrissy, Mason, and Ryder. She was always excited to take her family and Gail on yearly vacations to a resort somewhere on the East Coast.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Sunrise of Cary, Cary, North Carolina and Heartland Hospice, Raleigh, North Carolina.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at George Washington Memorial Park bell tower chapel in Paramus, New Jersey at 9:30 AM.
