Ted was my neighbor growing up and even though I may not of spent a whole lot of time with him, the times I did spend with him were really special. He would take me and my brother fishing, show me how to clean deer, and I would help out a little with yard work. He was one of the most generous and nicest people I’ve met and will forever be missed. Sorry again for your loss and let me know if you need anything.

Ted was my neighbor growing up as a kid. He would let us climb in his magnolia tree, treat us to delicious turkey or deer meat he cured, and on rare occasion there would be deer blood running down our street 😂. My fondest memory of Ted is when he took me and my younger brother on a fishing trip. He knew the best spots on the lake, and the best rig to use. I caught so much fish that day and don’t think I’ll ever be able to catch that much again. Ted was a blessing even in lives that were barely apart of his. A true man and someone who I will always remember looking back on my childhood. My sympathies to his Family.

Ted was a great neighbor and was a good friend. He always shared his knowledge of gardening and the outdoors with me and my boys. He would help me till my garden, clean my deer, sight in my rifle and took my sons fishing on his boat!! He will truly be missed!!

I met Teddy 46 years ago at the Pi Kapp house; it was 1977. I remember meeting him and his closest friend from high school at that time. We had pledged the fraternity together. 

Teddy and I hung out for a pretty long period in school. On several occasions, his mom would fix us dinner at  Folly Road. These meals were a godsend; Mrs. Mitchum was an incredible cook. She was always very nice and our plates were full. 

In our first year preparing for Greek Week (18 years old) we had tryouts for the fastest runners needed for the Chariot Race, an event where runners would pull a Chariot competing against other fraternities on Greek Day. I ran against Teddy in a heat as he blasted by me like a gazelle towards the finish line. He was super-fast. Luckily, we each made the team of runners for our fraternity and won the event on Greek Day. When the day had ended a couple of us piled into Teddy’s car at Boone Hall Planation where this was held and he turned the music up loud, it was “Come Sail Away" by Styx “…Free to face the life that’s ahead of me,” one lyric that sung truth at 18. Living young never dimmed in those days, we would never age.

Elizabeth, I’m sorry for your loss, it was way too soon. I met you one time when I was in Charleston visiting when you and Teddy were dating. Deepest sympathies, you built a life together. And to Courtney and Rachel, deepest sympathies to you with the loss of your father. 46 years ago sounds like another life, but I gotta tell you the yesterday’s seem like tomorrows, they fly by. Many sympathies to Eddie and his sisters, Jeannie and Paula. To Mr. Mitchum, it was good to talk with you. I remember you well when I came for dinner. You were always hospitable. God bless you all.

Ted was always ready with an encouraging smile, and open door to hospitality and I remember him helping John with a 'real man's weed-eater', and a certain dolphin swing, which he just handled it all in stride, no big fuss.  :D He was a blessing to so many of us.

Elizabeth, I am so sorry for your loss. I met Teddy in our fraternity at The College of Charleston (Pi Kappa Phi). Later in life, we re-connected through our business. I always loved working with him. I admired his “matter of fact” and direct way of communicating. He always seemed so calm.
