Born on October 5th, 1961, in South Boston, Virginia, he would grow up living in what he affectionately noted as "too many places" including California, Florida, and Cary, NC, where the family settled around the time he was in middle school. Tim would go on to graduate from Cary High School in 1979.
Tim met his loving wife, Lisa, during this time. They celebrated 37 years of marriage this past June. During those years they raised two sons, Ryan and Hunter, who Tim also prized. Tim also helped welcome his first grandson, Charles, into the world this year who he loved to call "Charles in Charge." Yes, that is a reference to the 80's sitcom.
After graduating high school, Tim went to work full-time at the family business, Cary Printing. This wasn't his first day on the job, though. He was raised on hard work in printing shops that his brother, Steve, and mother, Pauline, operated. When he'd work with Steve, the day started between 3-4AM. Through these times, Tim developed incredible business acumen and work ethic which helped him grow Cary Printing to a multi-million dollar company employing upwards of 50 people.
Tim loved every one of those people and walked laps around the shop to make sure he said good morning to each one. It was a family enterprise, also operated with his mother, Pauline, sister, Jaymee, and her husband, Doug, and this attitude was ever-present. This even extended out to when all the kids, Ryan, Hunter, Jordan, and Dillon, were able to start stuffing envelopes in Bindery.
But, as life tends to do, a curveball was thrown at Tim with the Great Recession in the late 2000s when Cary Printing closed its doors. There were so many people affected that meant the world to Tim. So at what was one of the lowest points in his life, Tim displayed resilience and kept going.
He then started EcoZoo Lawn and Grounds. Once again a family enterprise, Ryan and Hunter worked often with Dad maintaining commercial and residential properties. Those were some hot summers cutting gross, but any time spent with Tim was fun.
Family was a central part of Tim's life. From growing up and moving around when all they had was each other, through the end of his life and battling with T-Cell Lymphoma when he was surrounded by his loved ones. He loved the annual family trip to Hilton Head Island. He never missed an event, baseball or basketball game for the boys growing up. And, he gave us the little things like simple phone calls to check-in and fatherly advice when you needed it most.
After starting and selling EcoZoo, Tim went to work at TCG Legacy Printing. A few years later, he tried something new again and landed a newfound career at 60 years old selling homes for KB Home. This new path gave Tim fulfillment by helping people find a home they loved.
Through these trials in his life, Tim kept the same mentality of hard work and was highly regarded by all of his colleagues who have always sung his praises to his family.
Tim was truly a devoted husband, a loving father, and a faithful Christian. He was a caretaker, too, always going above and beyond for those who needed help. One of his most treasured times in his life was serving as a Firefighter at YRAC Rural Fire Department Station 29 in the early 80s. He was brave for people who needed him, all the way through the end.
We were lucky to have him in our lives, and while we'll miss him, he's in a much better place now and resting with our Lord.
Tim is preceded in death and reunited with his mother Pauline, and brothers Steve Yancey and Stan Yancey, his wife Susan, as well as his Father-in-law Robert Powell. He is survived by the wife he adored, Lisa, their son Ryan Bannister, his wife Kathleen and grandson, Charles. Their son, Hunter Bannister. His mother-in-law, Ruby Powell, and brothers-in-law, Robert Powell and Don Powell. His sister, Jaymee May, her husband, Doug, their daughter Jordan, and her son, KJ. Their son, Dillon, and his wife, Amanda.
