Virginia Arletia Engelking Casey, 85, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025 in Apex, NC, surrounded by her loving daughter, son-in-law and best friend. Her final moments reflected the life she lived—full of warmth, connection, and grace.
Virginia was a devoted mother, a loyal friend, and a vibrant soul who embraced life with open arms. Her journey took her across this beautiful country and around the world, always seeking adventure and new experiences. She held many roles throughout her life, but her favorite was serving as the international liaison for the Oklahoma Tourism Department—a position that perfectly blended her love for travel with her deep pride in her home state.
No matter where she lived, Virginia remained an Oklahoma girl at heart. She spoke often and fondly of her hometown, Newkirk, sharing stories that sparkled with humor, nostalgia, and the unmistakable charm of small-town America. Her tales were more than memories – they were gifts.
Virginia was welcomed into eternal peace by her beloved parents, Carl and Doris Engelking, and her sister, Gail Ballet. Though they preceded her in passing, their love and memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.
She leaves behind a radiant legacy of love, laughter, and adventure. Surviving her are her devoted children—Casey Blalock and husband Lyon, and Jeffrey Casey and wife Shannon Guthrie—along with her treasured grandchildren and bonus grandchildren, her dear brother Merl Engelking, her lifelong best friend Sherry Hernandez, and a wide circle of family and friends who were touched by her vibrant spirit.
On September 6, 2025, a Memorial Dinner was hosted by her children in Cary, NC, to honor Virginia’s dear North Carolina friends. The evening was filled with joyful remembrances, heartfelt stories, and plenty of champagne—just as Virginia had requested. It was a beautiful celebration of a life well-lived and deeply loved.
A memorial service to celebrate Virginia’s remarkable journey will be held in her beloved hometown of Newkirk, Oklahoma in April 2026. All family and friends are warmly invited to attend. A private gathering will follow at the family farm to honor her in the place she held so dear. Details will be shared as the date approaches.
Virginia’s legacy lives on in every laugh shared, every story told, and every heart she touched. She will be remembered with joy, gratitude, and enduring love.
