Bill lived around Metz and farmed with his family until his early twenties. In his youth, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Just prior to World War II he moved to Wichita, KS and worked as a metal fabricator. He returned home to work the family farm until he was drafted. Before he was deployed, he met Margie and they were married on April 29, 1944. He served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater until he was honorably discharged on January 10, 1946.
Following his service he returned to Metz to live with Margie and began working for his Father-In-Law at the TJ Longabaugh Construction Company in Metz. At the dissolution of the construction company, he began working for Allied Signal at the Fram Plant and moved to Nevada, MO. He worked at Fram until his retirement.
He and Margie welcomed their son, Keith, on July 19, 1947. While living in Metz, he maintained his farming roots with a big garden. He was active in the Masonic Lodge and maintained his membership until his death. He was an active member of the Metz Methodist Church and helped build the new church building in Metz. When Keith was young, he would take him squirrel hunting and mushroom hunting. In his later years, he returned to quail hunting with his friends and continued gardening. Early mornings would find him at McDonald’s with his coffee buddies. He enjoyed walking at the community center almost every morning.
In 2006, he and Margie moved to Apex, NC, to be near his son and family. He enjoyed spending time and playing with all of his grandchildren. His favorite place to be was the swing in his backyard. In 2011, he lost Margie. He lived at his home until moving into a nursing home in July, 2019.
