Born on March 29, 1939, in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphia, Bud was a man defined by his quick wit, service to others, and devotion to his community. A 1957 graduate of North Catholic High School, he went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the mid-1960s, stationed overseas.
Bud’s career reflected his commitment to public service. After a brief period as a Philadelphia Police Officer, he dedicated the majority of his professional life to the U.S. Government, working at the Naval Shipyard and the Naval Inventory Control Point (DISC) until his retirement in 2002.
His impact was perhaps felt most deeply in the lives of Philadelphia’s youth. Throughout the 1970s and 80s, Bud was a pillar of the Tabor Rams youth sports organization. Serving as both a coach and Vice President, he was instrumental in the construction of a new recreation center—a legacy of his belief in the power of community and mentorship.
Known for a sense of humor that remained sharp until the very end, Bud brought laughter to everyone he met. His final evening was spent in the best possible way: celebrating his wife’s birthday, surrounded by the family he adored.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Jones and Frank Fisher, and his brothers, Thomas, Kenneth, and John.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Antoinette Fisher; his sons, Anthony (Amy) Fisher of Holly Springs, NC, and William (Michelle) Fisher of Cinnaminson, NJ; and his four grandchildren, Nicole Fisher, Emily Fisher, Eric Fisher, and Stephanie (Joseph) Marcucci.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the dedicated teams at Hospice and the VA for the dignity and professional care shown to William throughout his final journey. We are forever grateful to John and Kellie Dullaghan and the staff of Senior Helpers in Holly Springs; their leadership, alongside the unwavering compassion of caregivers Jai Jackson, Dulcie Hunt, and Simone Bailey, provided a rare and exceptional level of care that went far above and beyond. A very special thank you is reserved for his primary caregiver, Marquita Deans, whose devoted care and friendship brought "Bud" immense joy and comfort in his final days.
Family and friends are invited to honor Bud’s life during a memorial service at Apex Funeral Home at 550 W Williams St, Apex, NC 27502 on May 2, 2026.
