Andrew Slaughter

Andrew Slaughter was born at home on January 30, 1934, in Crescent, Oklahoma, to Lonnie and Laura Carmen Slaughter. He was one of eleven children. He was preceded in death by siblings Vertle, Frederick, Bobbie Jean, Franshell, Ledrew, Winferd, and Donnie Slaughter, and his son, Dwight Slaughter. His brothers Lafayette and Thurmon Slaughter, and his sister Dreda Slaughter remain with us.

Andrew accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as an adolescent. He graduated from Los Angeles Bible Training School and went on to worship, serve, and teach Discipleship Evangelism classes at Los Angeles Bible Training Church in Watts, California. He also taught Bible classes at the Jordan Downs projects, and later worshipped and taught Bible classes at Adelanto Community Church in California.

Andrew, his mother, and his siblings moved to California when he was eleven years old. He attended school and graduated from high school in Compton, California. He also graduated from Los Angeles Southwest Community College. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army in the 1960s where he was a valued member on the official Army Boxing team. He met and married Florence Vaden on May 3, 1972, and originally settled in Inglewood, California, sharing fifty-three years of marriage. Andrew worked at Caltrans, from which he retired, and later worked part-time at Consolidated Freightways until his full retirement from the workforce. In 1973, they welcomed a daughter, Tiye Melora, and in 1976 they welcomed a son, Andrew Cesar.

He is survived by his wife, Florence, of the home; his stepson, Harold Jones II (Rena), California; his daughter, Tiye Slaughter De Leon, Arizona; his son, Andrew C. Slaughter (Jenny), California. He is also survived by his granddaughter and grandson, Thandiwe and Joaquin De Leon; and his grandson Jonathan Slaughter; and sons, Terry Slaughter and Anthony Slaughter; and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Andrew was known for his humor and warm, personable nature — as well as his deep commitment to Christ, his service to the church, and his heart for evangelism. Andrew loved the Lord and his family. He was a caring and devoted son, brother, husband, father, brother-in-law, uncle, and grandfather. He touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Sunset Hills Mortuary, 24000 Waalew Road, Apple Valley, CA 92307, US, on September 8, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

A Funeral Service will follow at Sunset Hills Mortuary, 24000 Waalew Road, Apple Valley, CA 92307, US, on September 8, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
