Latu Tufunga Vaipulu was born on April 14, 1965, on the beautiful islands of Tonga to his loving parents, Tupou and Uheina Vaipulu. He was the baby of the family, a role he carried with a joyful spirit and a heart full of love for those around him.
Latu was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and man of faith. He is survived by his loving wife, Della Vaipulu; his sons, Robert Williams and Joseph Vaipulu; his daughter, Amber Rose Vaipulu; and his 13 cherished grandchildren, who were truly the light of his life.
Nothing brought Latu more happiness than spending time with his family. He especially loved taking his grandchildren on vacations, creating memories filled with laughter, stories, and adventure. His grandchildren meant the world to him, and he made sure they always knew how deeply they were loved.
Latu was also known for his love of fishing. He spent many peaceful hours by the water with a fishing rod in hand, full of hope and patience. Although he never actually caught a fish, that never stopped him from going back out again. For Latu, fishing was never really about the fish—it was about the quiet moments, the stories shared, and the laughter that came from telling everyone about “the one that almost bit.” His family will always smile remembering those fishing trips and the joy he found in them.
He was also a passionate sports fan and proudly supported his favorite teams, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Raiders. Whether watching a game at home or talking sports with family and friends, cheering on his teams was something he truly enjoyed.
Latu also had a special love for good food. One of his favorite treats was enjoying a meal from Jack in the Box, but nothing compared to the comfort of his wife Della’s homemade macaroni and cheese and potato salad, which he loved dearly.
Above all else, Latu loved God with his whole heart and soul. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he worked to instill that same love for the Lord in his family. He was a good family man who led by example—with kindness, laughter, faith, and devotion.
Though our hearts are heavy with his loss, we find comfort in the many beautiful memories he leaves behind. His laughter, his stories, his love for family, and his unwavering faith will continue to live on in all who knew him. Latu’s legacy is one of love, family, and faith, and he will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
