Mikayla Julianna Szobonya passed away in Phoenix, Arizona on June 10, 2025 at the age of 21. Born on April 26, 2004 in San Francisco, California, she was the beloved daughter of Michael and Zoila Szobonya.
She graduated from Capital High School in Olympia, Washington in 2022. She was pursuing a degree in finance at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona with dreams of a bright future.
Mikayla was a radiant, adventurous free spirit who faced the world with courage and curiosity, even in its unkind moments. Her passion for learning fueled her success as a driven student, while her fearless energy made her a standout athlete. She lived life on her own terms, finding joy in music, drawing, and travel. Her greatest joy in life was the love she had for animals, especially cats, whose playful antics and quiet companionship brought her peace. Mikayla's life was too short, but her memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved her - a reminder of the beauty found in both struggle and strength.
She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Zoila Szobonya. Mikayla is survived by her father, Michael Szobonya; her brother Michael Szobonya Jr.; her paternal grandparents, Joe and Linda Szobonya; her maternal grandparents, Jesus Romero Sr. and AnaMaria Renderos; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and cherished friends.
Visitation will be held on July 9, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Both will be held at Sunset Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary in Apple Valley, California.
