Moses Lewis Bell Jr. passed away peacefully on October 22, 2024 at the age of 75. Born on March 29, 1949, he was known for his love of; football, beer, dominoes, shooting pool, and the outdoors. The best times of my fathers’ life was spent reveling within each, a combo of a few, or all the above. He touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years Lisa, his siblings; Vincent, Wilton, Tita, Brenda, and Dawn. His sons; Derrick, D’shon, Deon, and Ty. And his grand-children; D'shon Jr., Daisha, Breana, Shaqkeel, Londyn, Madasyn, Berlynn, and Issaic.
Moses' life was characterized by putting family first, having a great work ethic, and like his father before him-being a jack of all trades type as he would dabble in golf, bass fishing, and once upon a time even fancied himself a song writer (one of his “hits” being a song called: “A Quarter to 4” he wrote for his brother Vincents’ group- The Beginning). He was a man of many talents (some hidden and unrealized) but his presence in this world was a blessing to it. He will be remembered for a war hero, father/husband, Manager, drinking companion, and all around good guy- he is truly missed by many.
Moses was born March 29, 1949 to M. Lewis Bell Sr. and Cleatriss Wiggins. He grew up with his siblings and family in Compton, CA. (after moving from North Carolina). After finishing High School in Hayward, CA., he enlisted in the US Marine Corp and served in the Vietnam War. (where he was twice captured and twice escaped, was one of 9 survivors of a base camp that was over-run by the Viet-Cong to which he received several medals for Valor- incl. Purple Hearts). Upon discharging from the Corps, he briefly worked various jobs before landing a job at UPS where he worked 35 years- many spent in Management. He shortly afterwards married his first Wife, Denise Blanton (whom preceded him in death) and they along with their 3 sons settled in Walnut, CA. He remained active in the community of Walnut Coaching little league baseball and taking advantage of the city’s outdoor activities where he could; fish, hunt, and camp within his neighborhood. Upon the unfortunate dissolution of his first marriage, Moses “lived his best life” to the fullest ! He spent a lot of time having fun, dating, and partying. But, it was his becoming a grandfather for the first time with the birth of his 1st. grand daughter Daisha, that he settled down more and found a new purpose- being the best grand father he could be to all his future grand kids to come (which he did). Later in life he met and married his current spouse Lisa, where they spent 24 years in marriage before his passing. Moses was a great man who led a very full life. He would tell you himself that in his life he had a few regrets (as so we all ), but, with many redeeming qualities.
