Socorro was born on August 16, 1945, in Villa Guerrero of Jalisco, Mexico, as the third daughter of twelve children to Rita and Pedro Torres. Socorro and the Torres family moved to Baldwin Park in the early sixties, where she later met her loving husband, Jose Guadalupe Gonzalez, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in 1964. The pair dated for 4 years and married at the very same church they met in 1968, marking the beginning of a loving marriage that lasted 58 wonderful years. Beginning in August of 2025, Socorro faced several health complications, which resulted in many hospital visits and extended stays at care facilities. Time and time again, she proved that she was an incredibly strong woman who fought to have more time with her family and friends. She passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren, on June 3, 2026.
Socorro loved her husband dearly and was a beloved wife; if anyone ever doubted that true love existed, they would only need to look at Soco and Pepe. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother who loved unconditionally and was always there whenever needed. She honored and cherished her mother, father, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, godchildren, and all her extended family. She valued her friendships and was loved by many. Always so giving, Socorro made sure that everyone had what they needed, no one went hungry, and everyone felt welcomed.
Socorro enjoyed listening to music, spending time with her dog Osito, exploring and gaining new experiences while traveling alongside those she loved. Above all, Socorro was happiest spending time with her family. She is the foundation on which her family continues to grow, and we are eternally blessed for the many years, memories, and lessons she has gifted us. Socorro was a dedicated Catholic with a deep faith, who lived a devout life and was an example to us all. The Gonzalez family wishes to thank the caregivers and doctors who blessed us with more time with Socorro, and we also wish to thank all who kept her in their thoughts and prayers. Your love and support have been a great source of strength and comfort. We know that she is looking down on us now, continuing to offer her strength, kindness, and unconditional love, just as she had during her life.
Socorro is preceded in death by her mother and father, her brothers, and two of her sisters. She is survived by her loving husband, Jose Guadalupe; her adored children, Myrna, Jose, and Marysol; her beloved grandchildren, Marlena, Franky, Gabriella, Cristian, Myria, Malinda, and Mercedez; and her treasured sister, Carmen.
