Alberta Jean Cox

She was born on November 3, 1928 in Russell, Kansas to Paul and Selma Young. She had one brother, Lawrence E. Young, predeceased.

She graduated Class of 1946 from Russell High School. Alberta married Lon R. Perkins on January 5, 1948. They were both devout Christians and members of Bible Baptist Church while residing in Russell. Alberta gave birth to her children, David, Patiricia, Judith, and Jeanette. Alberta and Lon moved from Russell, Kansas to Omaha, Nebraska, where Alberta gave birth to Paula. She was known to mention that she had five children within seven years. In 1956, the family moved to Wichita, Kansas until 1965, where Alberta worked as a stenographer for a local attorney. Lon received a job in Houston, Texas in 1965 and moved the family to Texas.

Alberta married Bob Cox in 1974, predeceased. Once moved to Arlington, Texas, she worked at St. Paul Insurance Company and enjoyed her work there until she retired in 1992.

In her retirement, she traveled to Israel in 1999 to see the origin of Christianity. She continued in her devotion to Jesus at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, a community she loved dearly. She taught Sunday School for 20 years, attended many ladies retreats, and mother-daughter teas in order to deepen her connection with God. It was her life’s mission to spread the word of God to her family and others. Alberta had a lovely singing voice and was known to never curse, smoke, or drink. Her children and family recognize how monumental it was to be raised by a Christian woman who did not carry bad habits, who helped them realise the importance of knowing our Lord Jesus, and the importance of being in the Word of God.

Alberta Jean Cox is survived by her five children, 13 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren:

Mindy Charlotte Thomas, granddaughter; Charlotte Elizabeth Thomas, great-granddaughter. Calvin Ray Sulak, Jr., grandson; Dylan Sulak, great-grandson; Chloe Helen Sulak, great-granddaughter.
